…I am not convinced that college is necessary. I won’t push my kids into it. My daughter had one year at Grand Valley and hated it. She works in the hotel industry and is going to cosmetology school. She works in a luxury hotel so she has benefits (for now!) Try to find jobs where the needs are, food, haircuts, morticians, daycare, etc.

I agree with you. And even if these kids do want a higher education it is possible to get almost every degree through an at home which cuts down a lot of the cost lets you schedule around a job. I won’t be pushing my kids into it either.

Carrie

Grand Rapids, MI

Carrie still values , it is quite oblivious, but she says that she can not force her kids if they do not want to. All I can see for her kids is hunger for education on a later date while they have enjoyed life working in places where their career do not feature. The truth is that some day these kids will feel that they were born with gifts that need to be nurtured through education that will finally become their career. This way I would only say that Carrie here, is taking away something very important from her children and they would some day blame her. Especially when they will go back home and tell her that “know what mama, I am back to school, am doing Law, but I wish I did it long ago”. With all the responsibilities they have now, they may not get the best out of it anyway. Also the old age may be a hassle too though education knows no age boundaries.

This is evident with Mr. Miruge, a Kenyan man over 80 years of age and determined to make it to the end. For him he seems to know exactly what he wants. To be a veterinary doctor. A career that really fits him. He insisted that even if he is old, nothing will stop him from learning up to class 8. And later do a veterinary course of which I think he needs to pass through High school education. The way he was holding a compass as he tried to draw a circle portrayed that his hands are ready to take it.

Again Mr. Miruge may be the cause for a turning point for many old people in Kenya and also around the world who have never gone to school. What I like about him is the fact that he does not keep quiet when he notices a problem. The primary school he is in might really improve with its services. He knows he is the centre of attraction and the TV and Radio stations in Kenya and around the world will always focus on him. Recently he complained that he is worried about the number of students that are in one class, saying that it will be hard for close attention from the teachers for they have to make sure every student is satisfied. Definitely the government is listening and will have to act even if it is not immediately.

Another lady yet from Kenya, over 50 years I guess also was quite frustrated when she was turned away by a headmaster from a primary school claiming that she wants to study. When she was asked why, she said that she is frustrated of her lack of education since she can not read well or even do money mathematics. She was determined too, saying she have every right.

This explains why education these days is very important. Mixing up with learned people while your not makes it the difference. You always feel discriminated. Though education is proving hard, when determined to get it you will surely get it. Your mind is what matters.

Student Loans and the Job Market, after College

play a great deal of help for any student undergoing college education. Without these loans, education proves quite expensive and stressing. Many however a concerned about the job market out there waiting for them after college. Most of the students graduate with bunch of loans such that they do not know where to start. Again getting a job that could probably compensate for the debts is always difficult. A student spends most of his/her life after education paying up the debts.

Dwight is about to graduate and wonders if there is such a job that could help him pay up his $70,000.

… I’m a senior at Davenport and will be graduating next year with my Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. I have to pay my own way and loans are what I mostly depend on to pay for tuition and books. The job market is terrible at the moment and I’m so afraid that I won’t be able to find work when I get out of school. How can I pay off $70,000 in loans without a job?

Dwight

Cincinnati, OH

It’s quite a situation and an awful feeling for Dwight and thousands of students out there who are wondering what will happen now that are pulled out. Dwight is graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and even with it he doesn’t feel any confident. Is it him or is this the way it is?

The state of desperation being in the air, we need someone who would encourage Dwight and other students out there that there are jobs waiting for them. And if there are no jobs let the truth be told since having a debt of &70,000 will make someone wonder if he/she will work towards building a home or paying up for education. Is there a job out there waiting for students with debts and too? Job creation is very important so that students will do their studies confident enough that they will not go out there and suffer joblessness. It is the situation that is weighing down most students in most continents especially in Africa. It is evident that in Africa, one only marries after 30 years of age. Mostly this is so because most of the youth life, Africans spend most of their time looking for money that is never found and when you get it is gulfed by the most expensive keys in life (Education). As a matter of fact, very few make it through college, and if they do, then they are already so old. Such a dreadful situation.

I urge every student planning to take to be very careful with it. Have a good plan, consider taking a loan from a company you can trust and most of all take just enough for your education, books and tuition if necessary. When you take the loan, let it do what is intended for, paying for your education. Remember you have to pay the loans. In case you are the kind that is your own guardian, consider looking for a part time job that will cater for your food, rent, other personal needs. This is hard and needs your discipline but it is just for a short time.
